IMPORTANT ASPECTS ON LABORATORY SAFETY
( SAFE MANIPULATION OF CHEMICAL PRODUCTS )

OBJECTIVE

Transmit to participants basic concepts for the safe handling and storage of chemical products in QC/R&D laboratories, classification of hazardous chemical products, symbols of dangers in the manipulation. Basic principles for realizing laboratory works, Higiene and Toxicology. Hazards in working and emergency procedures. PPE - Personal protective equipments, safety equipment.

QC/R&D Laboratory Managers and technicians, researchers, mantainance andproduction supervisors, safety technicias and for trainees education. 

PROGRAM

1. INTRODUCTION
Handling and storing chemical products, classification of hazards, Material Safety Data Sheets 

2. CHEMICAL HAZARDS
Combustible and flammable products, corrosivity, oxidants, water reactive products, pyrophoric products, peroxides, instable and explosive products, compressed and liquefied gases, criogenic products. 

3. HAZARDS TO HEALTH - INDUSTRIAL TOXICOLOGY CONCEPTS
Chemical toxicology, routes of entry of chemical into the body, permissible exposure limits effects to exposure, parameters that affect toxicity, phisiological classification of toxic chemical products. Monitoring and special precautions. 

4. STATIC ELECTRICITY
Concepts, prevention and protection, common accidents in chemical industries.

5. ORIENTATIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING AND STORAGE CHEMICAL PRODUCTS      Handling, storage, transport and working with chemical products. Safety considerations.

6. HAZARDOUS WORKS IN LABORATORIES
Activities that need supervision. Development of safe chemical processes. Check List for the safe work practices.

7. EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
Emergency procedures in case of fires, spills and projections of chemicals. First aid.

8. PPE AND SAFETY EQUIPMENTS
Types of PPE. Safety equimpents. Fire extinguishing equipments.

9. ORIENTATIONS FOR SAFE CHEMICAL RESIDUES DISPOSAL
Standard procedures for safe disposal of chemical residues
