IMPORTANT ASPECTS
TO IMPROVE INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES
SAFETY
OBJECTIVE
Increase the awareness of employees relative to safety
aspects of their activities, giving them important concepts
to do a safety studies in their processes and jobs, looking
for hazards and estimating risks, adopting measures to
reduce them ALARP.
DIRECTED TO:
Safety engineers and technicias, production mangers ans
supervisors, process managers and process engineers,
researchers, projetct managers, and for trainees
training.
PROGRAM
1. SAFETY IN CHEMICAL AND SIMILAR INDUSTRIES
Why is it necessary to perform precise studies relative to
industrial process and jobs safety. Discussion of many
catastrophic accidents happened in chemical and similar
industries (Oppau, Texas City, Flixborough, Seveso, Bophal, Toulouse
and other important accidents ). Build the awareness to safe
behaviours. Discussion of accidents in companies where
inadequate safety studies where made.
2. IMPORTANT ASPECTS IN ASSESSING A PROCESS SAFETY
Project codes, equipment lay-out, materials selection,
corrosion control, active and passive protection against
fires, Higiene and Toxicology, Flammability and Explosivity,
Static Electricity, Pressure reliefs, alarms and interlocks,
SOP´s, Cooling systems, materials handling, and storage, MOC,
Human behaviour causing accidents.
3. REACTIVE PROCESSES MANAGEMENT
Underestanding reactive processes, handling reactive
products, runaway temperature, safeguards, check-lists.
Develping safe chemical processes, Safety laboratory tests,
safe scale-up of processes. Presentation and discussion of
process reactive accidents case studies
4. SAFE WORKS IN CONFINED SPACES
Hazards working in confined spaces, permission to work check-lists,
case studies presentation and discussion
5. PROCESS HAZARD ANALYSIS
Procedures and qualitative techniques for process hazard
analysis - What-Iff, PHA, HAZOP,
Fault Tree analysis.
